I loved this movie on all levels. It's wonderfully acted, conveys so many relatable human emotions, displays really important philosophical questions and makes you think about the human experience. And I'm sorry, who doesn't love having a space spider/octopus eating Nutella as a psychoanalyst!? There were moments I disagreed with the movie but it's still a wonderful piece of art. I compare it to movies like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, so if you came for a sci Fi adventure in the realms of The Thing or a goofy comedy with a man and a spider, this movie is NOT for you.

The movie moved me for obvious reasons, the land is just breathtakingly beautiful, and there are many important themes (death as a main theme, killing randomly vs for need of food, civilization vs being able to be truthful, trust, etc.). I loved the editing, the camera work, and the music/soundtrack. Also the main focus on a grieving woman surviving in the wild is a great theme in and of itself. What I didn't like was that they went for the cancer trope, and I also find the grieving part was a bit superficial. You can tell years are going by with the seasons changing, but her character doesn't really seem to evolve that much. There are signs that she does, but somehow it didn't translate very well for me. All in all a beautiful movie, but it lacks depth and seems polished a lot of times.

The second half of the film makes much more sense, the first half feels like it was butchered in post production. The edits are horrible and made it impossible for me to build any connection to the characters. While I can appreciate what they tried to do by putting modern music in, I feel the movie just doesn't know what it wants at first. In the second half, Austin Butler finally gets some coherent scenes to shine, starting with him finding a new team to manage his shows. The end is heartbreaking as intended. Oh and Tom Hanks plays a wonderfully hateable promoter. All in all the characters feel a bit one sided at times but the story is still heartbreaking and the music amazing.

I'm too stupid for this movie. Hence I did not enjoy it at all. It jumps right into action without explaining anything, and then it just turns into a mumbo jumbo of action/fighting/spying/snippets of explanation that make no sense/violence violence violence/new characters that make no sense either. It's fast paced in a bad way. I watched this movie with 4 other people, neither one of us enjoyed it. Guess my friends and family are too stupid, too. I don't get the high ratings at all. Disappointed.

I don't understand the 4.4 rating at all. The movie is cheaply made with filters, weird camera angles, tacky make up on the 'possessed', bouncy cameras and predictable jumpscares, the dialogue is so cliche and straight up stupid sometimes and everything seems so overacted, especially Bana's character and his absolutely unbearable partner. This was an absolute waste of time even though the story has so much potential. I'm giving two stars because the priest's character that carried the entire movie with the little screen time he got.

This movie was such a disappointment. The visuals are stunning, the music is great, and I was looking forward to being introduced to the new water world. The story is a bad patch up of every bad war movie you've ever seen mixed with Rambo, Jaws and Free Willy, just to show off the visuals it feels like. No real introduction except for explosions, rushing between places, jumping whales, TONS of weapons with endless ammunition, seemingly endless fight scenes, hardly any meaningful dialogue all over. I know Cameron is not the most creative when it comes to storytelling (looking at you Avatar 1 or should I say...Pocahontas!), but this was just beyond lazy. There is no heart to the story, it's rushed all over the place, doesn't make sense half of the time (others have pointed out mistakes already) but the deal breaker for me was the character development. Jake Sully, former marine, hardheaded as they come, fiercely independent, is now a cowering, "Let's just go and hide!" father who doesn't know basic military training anymore (taking a tracking sensor back to your hideout, aye?). His wife, an equally independent and fierce soul, is now standing behind Jake at all times, begrudgingly following him around and seemingly having lost her spirit most of the time. The kids can hardly be told apart, wondering why they had to have so many when only 2 really had a story to follow. The money and the storylines were wasted on this. This should have been two or three movies. By the final fight, I was hoping it would be over soon.

What a heaping mess this movie is. Stellar cast, great scenery, and all just wasted on a ridiculous , convoluted storyline. Just bad all over. The dialogues, the cliches, the randomness of it all, the editing, so many continuity errors and contradictions. So much so that even the reveal feels confusing and non-rewarding. Don't watch.

I wish the movie would have taken itself more seriously.
