Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is an incredible ride and easily the most emotional film in the trilogy. Shadow's story is adapted well, capturing his struggle, Maria’s importance, and the conflict between vengeance and purpose—true to Sonic Adventure 2's spirit. Still, there are changes. The ARK isn’t in space, Maria doesn't die from being shot, and Gerald lives. I understand this is a different universe, but I would’ve preferred they stuck closer to the original—Maria’s death and Gerald’s execution were huge parts of what made Shadow's arc so powerful in SA2. The biggest missed opportunity? Rouge. Her absence leaves a hole in the story—she’s a key character in SA2, and including her would’ve made the adaptation even stronger. Overall though, this is a fantastic film. It hits the emotional beats, respects the characters, and gives us a Shadow that truly feels like Shadow. Faithful or not, it’s a 5-star win for Sonic fans.
