As a native of Sierra Leone I see the characters and characterizations in Blood Diamond differently from when I would watch Captain Philips and see native Somalians taking the roles of sea pirates. That’s what’s called type character. The effect is fully achieved. In Amistad , a movie about the Atlantic slave trade in Sierra Leone featuring Djimon as Joseph Cinque ( Sengbeh Pieh ) another concern comes to light again. In terms of artistic display, Blood Diamond and Amistad are classics. However , a native Sierra Leoneans response to these movies would differ from the rest of the world.
