One of my favourite films of all time.
Badass female leads who are still feminine and not hyper sexualised. Who also have their own personalities and styles.
Full immersion into Korean and Kpop culture with a kdrama feel at times that allows โoutsidersโ to not feel excluded but also not over explaining anything. You can tell theyโve done a lot of research to incorporate true culture. From Korean folklore Easter eggs, to their general references to Korean food, to the accurate depiction of the location.
Also, as someone who works in the field of mental health I thought the use of โdemonsโ and โpatternsโ as well as the obvious overarching theme of shame was incredibly well done. I cried. A lot. But I also think that these films help to open up the shame conversations and could improve the emotional literacy of young people if itโs used correctly.
On a less deep note, I liked the pacing and I did like the ending, I think the situation required urgent action and thereโs a perfect set up for a sequel to do adapt the โresolutionโ.
The visual aspects of the film were stunning. The animation style, the fight scenes, the outfits, the music video WITHIN the movie. Chefs kiss.
Also the audio - not just the catchy songs and their use of music like a broadway musical to tell a story. The noises of the film. Excellent.
Overall I was incredibly impressed. Iโve gone from someone who can watch a movie once or twice MAX, to someone who has sat and watched this same film 5 times in two days.
