I see very mixed reviews about this film, i understand that by stating my opinion i only add to the diversity of the reviews but like anyone that did watch the series, it left me with a lot to say(i suppose that could be one positive).
I always unintentionally remind myself that the actual skill of acting must be so hard to master when i notice some obvious flaws. I wanted to say this before i critique the film to anyone because above everything else, this was the most consistent and one of the only issues i really had throughout watching the whole series. Sam, the killer, really did seem that he was mentally over exerting himself just from reading the script, i wont dig too deep but he definitely seemed like he didn't want to be on set for a minority of his screening time. I am still a little confused and kind of in 2 mind states about what the writers real vision was when creating this character because if the intent was for his completely emotionless state to be a part of the character 24/7 he obviously aced it, but there was some scenes that just felt like he was having trouble expressing ANY emotion at all through his acting so it then seems very mediocre instead.
Anyways, that is the only fault i found outside of the actual show, for myself.
It is actually not hard to sum up the whole of the series for me in one paragraph, but i cant do so without dropping every spoiler i could think of. I really enjoyed the film! It definitely had some sort of special feel to it, like 'Narnia' and 'Land of The Lost' type of vibes, going one further and comparing the adventure value to an absolute classic that bares precious nostalgic feelings:'The Bridge to Terabithia' . It really is something that i would watch with my little sister, minus all the lighthearted demonic talk:)
Regardless, there was some real issues regarding Kinsey as a person, and her Mother, considering these are 2 of the main characters. Kinsey was unlikable from the start, but up until about the 3rd or 4th episode you can sort of understand that she is a teenage girl that has recently lost her father and moved to another town, but unfortunately it quickly gets to a point in which this empathetic feeling for her turns into a passionate disliking. Kinsey, like her mum, is very out of touch with reality and has no idea how toxic she is naturally. I dont want to rant too much but there is a lot that can be said about those 2 characters specifically that factors into the series being hard to watch sometimes because its hard to like the characters you are supposed to. Of course Kinsey and her Mum are not the only 2 contributing factors for me when writing this, but definitely the most memorable of the annoying characters on this series.
BTW this is my first ever review and i wanted to do so without dropping spoilers, sorry if this seems vague but its all i would point out when recommending to a friend:)
