Ok so I bought this to read to my 8 yr old grandson. Thought I'd like to read it first & have read just a third of the book & decided I don't need to read any more & I will be unable to read it to my grandson! The plot so far is not the problem & neither is the hero or the monsters. But I have found the writing iritatingly clumsy. I stopped reading when I was introduced to a gnome with a prefix they. OK so it's not the neutrality or lack of gender that's a problem here but the clumsy way the gnome is introduced. I was already a little bored so I'm sad that's as far as I can go.
