I'm harsh on this film. Classic women's revenge films, comedies, and feminist critiques had already been done much better. I'm thinking "Life and Loves of a She-Devil", "Death Becomes Her" for Goldie Hawn, "Ruthless People" for Bette Midler, and of course several comedies for Diane Keaton who had been at the top of that game for a long time. Those films flowed. The scripting here (apart from a few scenes) was bad while thinking itself clever.. It didn't know whether to play it as a semi-serious drama, a political message, a children's comedy or even a musical and so the tone came across as all over the place. The feminist viewpoint could be broken down to "Men are stupid, greedy, and vindictive. Women are intelligent, compassionate, and wise". With a few obvious one-dimensional exceptions to the rule. Cue the cheesy music (as a rimshot) to let the audience know we are in "zany comedy mode". The revenge plot never pays off satisfactorily because it's not really down to the intelligence of the protagonists but is tacked on as an afterthought. In fact, the brakes are already slammed on the plan before the wives even begin it by the over-moralising. In the meanwhile they come across as whiny and overly entitled. The talent is totally underused in many poorly scripted scenes.
Bad; and that comes from someone who has loved several films of the same theme and others with the same actors in similar parts.
