This movie was amazing and the wide shots of the cities taken back by nature are absolutely gorgeous. This is the fourth installment of what will be nine movies in the series and I can attest that it’s relatively crucial to watch the previous three movies to make sense of all of the relevant details. The connections made to the original five Planet of the Apes movies from the 60s and 70s (underground society of humans using satellites) was awesome and makes me so excited for the next five that are already planned out and in production.
Side note: Some reviewers under this movie are discounting and knocking it because of personal connections they made to racist tropes and ideologies against black people from recent years and in history. If you’re making this connection because the main characters in the movies are apes/monkeys, you’re making that connection from a subconscious place in your own mind. You’re the racist one. Black people are not monkeys or apes. They’re humans and that connection is your fault, not the fault of the people making the movies. Get real.
