This game is well executed in a lot of areas in my experience so far. I’ve been playing GW2 for about 3 months now, due to COVID and social distancing I found time to invest in an MMO and I read a lot of reviews and researched before startingI finally found GW2 and for some reason did not realize it’s base game is free. So I started playing and was pleasantly surprised to see the enriching experience and content it has to offer. I made it to lvl 26 and then actually shelled out money to buy the “deluxe” while it was on sale My initial reasoning was more char slots as the free only gives you two. But any edition you buy still comes with all expansions and updated content as it comes out. In short, you pay once and that’s it you get access to everything the game have to offer. You can shell out more $$ for More mounts or skins or bank slots and gold etc.. But honestly you don’t have to do any of that, the game will give great drops for doing world events and dungeons and just normal grinding will with so much loot you’ll Spend an hour of your time just figuring out what to sell and what to keep. One of my favorite things about this game is the personally story experience, your decisions matter and have different effects on the world around you and your experiences, the voice acting is pretty great and dialogue is well written with enriching stories and left me actually LOLing and empathizing with characters. It’s just done very well. The class system has so much to offer you’ll never get bored with your current build as you can change and You will be continually evolving. The craft system is very rewarding so far, although I haven’t invested a lot of time it is cool to see you are able to break down items into components to craft things and/or harvest, mine and chop down trees. There are recipes you can find and buy but also literally try throwing a bunch of different things you’ve collected over your travels and craft something completely new (one of my char is a chef and I accidentally made caramel candy by combining random ingredients). The purchase of the game gave me a lvl 80 cap boost to any one of my char, you get a mount in the second expansion as a result of this. I have not used this yet nor do I really plan to. The game does a really great job keeping you engaged in content and grinding never ever seems like a chore, it’s very well balanced in that respect. When you buy the game you also get access to “The Black Lion Company” which is the games trading system. I have to say at first it was really convenient and exciting that I could just buy whatever it had to offer if I had the gold but now it almost feels like cheating. I kind of wish i didn’t have access to it and it cheapens the experience a bit. You can go through a world event or dungeon and get really cool gear.....or just buy it or create it via sigils (if you have the gold). The world itself is beautiful and the jumping puzzles can break some of the monotony of doing quests, again it’s a great balance. As far as the player count? Or the game being dead? Just the opposite. There are so many players during world events that I actually have to subsample (make the graphic settings as low as possible) just to get frames to play. Whenever you travel to a city your frames drop bc of this. It would be 5 stars except this is a common theme and reoccurring experience. But the game is still enjoyable and the community is amazing and great to new players, it is just really. Great investment. Advice for anyone: PLAY it. It’s FREE. Don’t pay till you cap at 80.
