The film was beautiful, engaging and heart-wrenching. The characters (adults and children) were genuine, authentic and delightful. I wish the horrific cruelty and violence had been less graphic. The story stood alone and didn't need that level or horror. i felt blind-sided and, for me, it ruined a film that I would have kept in my library and recommended to everyone I knew. Hugh Laurie was magnificent, of course.
