I have no problem with them using so-called "woke" terminology, which is what many other reviewers were annoyed by. Nope. I'm fine with that. What I am not fine with is that this is "Justified" in name only. Gone is any sense of community, any sense of in-depth characters, and connection between Raylan and the locale and characters that he interacts with. Gone is the humor, the quirkiness and the likability of even the criminals of Harlan. I was so disappointed. I thought if the sequel was placed in the Everglades that it would be very entertaining and be "Justified" moves to Florida with interesting quirky characters in Gatorland. But No! Then when I found out it would take place in Detroit I surmised that it would be about Raylan interacting with some of the organized crime guys who had visited Harlan to try and take over activities in Harlan. That would have had continuity. You know, folks like Wayne Duffy, etc. But no! This was just standard criminal elements. Could have been any standard cop s how in a big city. Boring. And depressing that "Justified" was not really "Justified" at all. SPOILER ALERT AHEAD ! We (hubby and me) actually predicted that Willa would get kidnapped even before the start of the show - something to tie Raylan to Detroit and to give him a reason to be filled with anger. But No! Just as we predicted (we thought) Willa DID get kidnapped. Not while wandering about in the bowels of Detroit (like any daughter of any enforcement officer would do -not! - despite knowing of the evil, criminal elements and what could befall her). No! She made it through the streets and warehouses (what was the deal about her picking up the piece of glass - will we see that later on?).No! She made it back to the hotel room - only to be "kidnapped" by the bad guy. But NO! Actually he just took her to breakfast so he could confront Raylan. And then finally, Raylan became Raylan and beat him up. Finally, violence well deserved instead of gratuitous. No folks, this was not the nuanced, well thought out and tight writing of the previous show. Or the tight editing. What was with the tedious second after second of some of these shots? Why focus on Sandy being nervous in the car - for way longer than we needed to see? Or Willa being bored in the hotel room? Etc? In Harlan shots were tight or if they lingered they had some purpose to them. These rarely did. And don't even get me started on the musical score. Awful! Course I am a senior citizen now - so maybe for 20 year olds it worked. But I miss the genius of the score for the original Justified. As for the reviewers who are claiming "wokeness" whatever it means to them - to me it looked like any other cop show for the past 40 years. As for the plot with Willa. Seriously? I mean seriously? The school did not take a wayward teen because they showed up 10 minutes late? What?? And would not any dad have packed Willa off to her grandparents or someone for a few days if they got assigned to a case in the jungle areas of Detroit? Yes, yes they would. And why have Willa turn into a relatively unsupportive and boring character? Why not have her fascinated by her dad being on the witness stand instead of listening to cat videos. Frankly she deserved to be kidnapped or jailed just for being an uninteresting character. Producers of "Justified" please do NOT give up on "Justified". Send Raylan back to Florida - to Gator Country and bring back the writers who wrote one of, if not the best ( I just rewatched the entire series while waiting for this new one) show ever produced.
