Not a bad movie, but it's pretty formulaic. The characters, for the most part, stick to their assigned roles, and show a little bit of growth as to be expected, but there's not much that is all that surprising from any of them.

Absolutely one of my most favorite movies ever. I laughed, I cried, I felt deeply existential dread, and everything in between. It was rather reminiscent of my experience with my immigrant mom, even though we're not Chinese. It takes you through a wild and trippy ride while still making its central familial story feel very real, even if the rest of it is completely absurd and wacky. You might end up feeling like you got truckloads of emotion from every direction by the time the credits roll around.
