This movie does too much telling and not enough showing. In the book, I rooted for Anne with all my heart due to her kindness, selflessness, and wit. In this adaptation, I hardly like Anne. Her snarky looks and eye rolls were not at all the character Austen imagined. This makes the climatic reunion much less satisfying. I was so excited about this movie. I’d like to have all the same actors, setting, costumes and have a redo. Much more understated, developing Anne’s inner turmoil. And the sacrifices she and Wentworth make for love.
