I really enjoyed this movie, but will you? No movie will make everyone happy. Look up the reviews for your favorite movie and you are certain to find negative comments, Dune Part 1 is no different. If you are reading reviews to determine whether this movie is worth your time and money and the over whelming positive reviews aren’t enough to sway you, then the following average negative comments may be helpfull...
1) If you’re a source material purest then you probably didn’t like Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings and you won’t like this movie because you’re pompous.
2) If you buy into the “This is nothing more than another formula Trilogy….” argument, then you probably didn’t like The Matrix, any Marvel movie, How to Train your Dragon and more, then you probably won’t like this because you’re not capable of judging a movie on it’s own merits.
3) If you’re looking for nonstop “Transformer” level action, this movie isn’t for you because you are incapable of connecting with or relating to characters.
4) If you don’t like nuanced stories that require context and contemplation to understand “why” something is significant then you probably won’t like this movie because your mentally lazy.
The short and sweet of it is, ignore haters, not just in movie review comments, but in life too. Spend a few bucks and take your spouse, friends or family to see the movie. Go with an open and attentive mind. Notice the cinematography, sound scape, dialogue, costumes, language… everything and try to appreciate the artistry of 1,000 people’s efforts, and if after that you don’t like the movie then so be it, but don’t think it a waste of time. There is a difference between not enjoying something and it being a waste of time.
