If someone were to see this movie without reading the book, I feel they would like it. The selecting of the cast and their acting was done very well based on the descriptions of the book. However, having read the book on multiple occasions due to the rollercoaster ride I was taken on every time, I was disappointed with all the things that were left out or in many occasions, forced into other scenes. Some of the dialog was said by the wrong individual and it didn't quite do the book justice. There were a lot of scenes that just did not make sense where things were not expressed sufficiently to justify the feelings being portrayed. Someone recently asked me to see it again since it was one of their favorite movies and I gave it a second try. Having read the book a couple of times since I first saw this movie when it was originally released, I was still disappointed but I did notice this time that the acting was superb. I did not like the liberties taken at the end of the movie, because it did not represent the behavior of that era nor was it something that would have been appropriate to be on display in the book. Some things were better left to the imagination.
