This book was at least 150 pages too long. It was written on the level of a young adult book—it was embarrassing silly. One thing I will call out ( and I’m sure there will be pushback) is that a big part of the plot is the hateful reactions from war protesters when she returned from Vietnam—including being spit on. There has been extensive study on this claim and it just was not a common thing at all. There are literally close to zero documented cases; it is considered an urban myth. So I think it is a lazy plot device. Also the surprises toward the end of the book ( no spoilers) were painfully unbelievable—especially two of the same big reveals. This book was a waste of my time.
