I spent 6-7 hours reading this book in a row. Did I intend to? No. I expected to go sleep early but here I am at 1am shattered to the core at the story I just unraveled that only got deeper and deeper. And no, this isn't one of those books that gives you giddy butterflies for the protagonist. Maybe in the first few chapters but it doesn't stay that way. Colleen definitely displayed the harsh reality of a relationship with domestic abuse with maturity and realism flawlessly. I even found myself rooting so hard for Ryles in the beginning as I fell in love with him the same way Lily does. By falling in love with his negatively developing character it made me pained to have been rooting for their relationship for even just a brief moment. But that's when I realized her book worked. I understood why now that women returned to their relationships with violence because I now understood the way they rooted for their partner, or in this case, the dreamboat that was Ryles. I was on the edge of my seat throughout and am highly satisfied with the depth of the story and its painfully moving ending. It certainly won't be the last book I read by Colleen, and I'm glad I decided to pick it up today. Her writing flows so smoothly and her stories are certainly thrilling even in the harshest subjects, making them impossible to put down. She deserves the praise she receives and I intend to follow along her writing journey.
