Story line was a bit telling. Tyler's message is consistent with present days issues with black couples. Women marrying wrong, red flags everywhere but woman hoping for the best. Initially just trying to get by after being let down but soon realise you either step up and stay alive or be taken out.
Clearly understood message. Many would say his stories lines are similar, probably, men in different characters, emphasising their bad behaviour and not being accountable for their behaviour. The message is clear, black men have a lot of stepping up to do and gaining an understanding of the impact of their behaviour on the black woman.
Dallas had a good woman despite his background, did he appreciate her sacrifices, he married from one of the best family in the town. She stood by him. Of course her family were not happy she chose him and did what they could. However, they were a bit too insensitive at Dallas brother's funeral. What was said would aggravate any family. It was a bit provocative. That simple action invoked some horrible emotions.
Dallas however never appreciated where he was and the need to be better. His family voices reigned. His motive for divorce was him being gingered on to do it with the hope she would refuse and fight for him. The knock-on effect such behaviours on Dallas's mother, she was treated badly, raised monsters. She possibly couldn't get out until Dallas killed his father out of rage. Chao everywhere. His family a let down in the community.
Her change of attitude was a shock to him, he didn't deserve nor appreciate it so losing it seemed the best option.
She could have benefited also from a break than get involved with another so soon, although rushed, it was a message to women that often happens too often. It creates a problem for both parties.
I give the movie a 5 for its subtle messages, these behaviour plight the black communities in various continents. Someone has to bring it to light. That's Tyler's calling, someone else should prostray the black communities better. He can't do it all.
I enjoyed it and was on edge until Dallas was taken down. Still fearful for what Dallas's family would retaliate with.
