I found this to be one of the most engaging films I’ve ever seen. The use of silence in the film was so powerful and silence is a rare and important commodity in communication. It gives the viewer time to reflect on the powerful emotions and endless questions during each scene... the curiosity of the poetry teacher when Lisa read the Anna poem to the class, the selfish nature of his sudden interest in her, the loneliness and disappointment she felt with her own life, marriage and children, the sense of hope when she discovered a raw talent, the fact that she, being female, was trusted with the child after hours, the questions are endless... especially whether the child, in fact, wanted fame at all. I feel this movie is important as many people are born with a gift and suddenly become “famous” and the lifestyle isn’t always something which brings happiness. I think the young child, Jimmy, should have been compared to Chopin rather than Mozart, as Chopin uses few notes and chooses only the right ones which is what Jimmy does with his poetry. Lisa’s disappointment in not being his “Anna” depicts human constant need for acknowledgement brilliantly. This is a movie which has so many hidden undertones, and I personally loved it. I understand the relationship between the teacher and the student is unorthodox, however being a teacher myself I know this would never happen in our strictly supervised schools these days. Incredible movie with a thought provoking and powerful ending. 10/10 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
