A candid account of a con artist and master manipulator who was, against the advice of many, given command of a ship that was sent to Viet Nam for patrol duty. But Marcus Aurelius Arnheiter was determined to take his ship and her crew into harm's way. After ninety days of antics that rivaled those of the fictional Captain Queeg, Arnheiter finally caught the attention of Navy brass, and was relieved of his command. But he spent the following years trying to "prove" he had been undermined by a mutiny of jealous junior officers, and his trumped-up crusade dragged Navy brass through the mud, even ending the career of a senior officer who had chosen to defend Arnheiter. There is nothing in Sheehan's account to suggest that Arnheiter was anything but delusional and self-aggrandizing.
