The amount of effort that went into weaving together survivor's stories and providing context for the time period provided invaluable insight for the reader. I grew up in Pine County, and although my family didn't move to the area until long after the fire, I was raised surrounded by the aftermath, even in the early 2000s. My grandma lived in John Craig's house and I live in it now. Between spending time with my grandma in her home and visiting my dad as he cared for the grounds of the fire monument, I learned about the fire. These two things (and many smaller ones) led to an appreciation of contextualizing and remembering history. It's hard to imagine what Hinckley might be like if there had been better regulations, but I enjoyed reading the final pages describing visiting.
