I am a great fan of international mysteries both on PBS and on MHZ . Especially the Walter Presents series. In the case of Maigret I find my self agreeing with numerous other negative reviews. Not so much of an Englishman playing a French detective but primarily with a lead actor who has no personality for this role. His absent stares in almost every scene conveys a portrayal of someone who is lost in this role or forgot his lines . Completely void of emotion. I tried to watch it a few times but had to turn it off. The scene of the whole squad marching out of the patrol room in formation was laughable and animated .
The British seem to have the desire to take an excellent French Drama and ruin it with lackluster actors. Case in point the excellent portrayal by the female lead as the Austistic consultant for the Paris police in the French drama ASTRID Contrast that stunning performance with the bland role of Patience in the British version and the difference is striking. Same plots same stories and the Brits found a way of ruining an excellent French Series. Itโs time for the Brits to stop trying to create remakes of famous French mystery dramas
