As a J.R.R Tolkien fan who grew up finding the upmost comfort and enchantment from the “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” franchise.. I genuinely cannot describe the sheer excitement that I get to be watching this every week. You may think differently, but I feel that the series embodies everything that the original films did.. in creating slow building, visually appealing complex story lines. A platform similar to that the first LOTR film did. Season 1 perfectly introduces all characters and motives for the casual viewer to enjoy but also shares multiple echoes from the original films. It’s ending is perfect in the release of Sauron’s form. Season 2 starts slow but does fill voids of unanswered questions from the first season with beautiful visuals. The season progressively quickens and dives deep in the lore of Eregion and deceived Celebrimbor which deserves the developed screen time shown. I’ll admit that the show does have a tendency to somewhat focus on somewhat irrelevant characters in moments but I hope that these are to fulfil deeper purposes in later writing. However, as the season progresses it is steering towards a really enticing climax where my inner fan boy can not wait for episode 7. Saurons development in this season is a thing of beauty and I think we will look back on this as a well crafted development while still allowing other story lines to show progress, leaving gaps for a fan like myself to conceptually guess at where this could possibly go.
I do feel that there are fans who are too quick to judge and crave constant action which the original films did not possess anyway.. instead they built towards defining pivotal moments in huge battles.
I believe the ending of this season will mifror a similar resolution to that of the films but with a twist on Sauron’s successful milestone. The shows lore is still protected (despite the small moment with the orcs) but ultimately the show deserves patience in order for it to become the masterpiece it could so easily be, in a collection of 5 seasons.
