I thought this movie did an excellent job at portraying a worst case scenario of how the US government, and its people, would handle a “world ending” level threat. Sure, some things were exaggerated but, I mean, I think that’s what the movie was aiming for, especially with how the media covers stories and how more views is more ratings and all that… Those who don’t know, can’t judge, myself included, but I feel that, in a way, it’s accurate. We see from the past couple of years, including the election of trump (and with recent 2020 election), the interest in politics has sky rocketed and everyone seems to be more submersed in politics.
The movies shows a great depiction of how US citizens react to issues that arise everyday. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but fact of the matter is, that is exactly how everyone reacted to covid. It was a lot of distrust, political agendas, divided parties/beliefs amongst individuals. I believe the movie wanted to show the ultimate worst case scenario of what could happen, how media outlets would react, how citizens would receive the news and ultimately cause division. However, I think we are better than that. I know, I have seen a lot of good during covid, despite all the “hate” that the media blasted on socials. There is a lot of good people out there and significant acts of kindness occur daily.
So, inclusion, everyone has their different beliefs, opinions, and views on this movie and even in real life. But, we should all strive to be more understanding in these types of situations. New issues arise daily, and instead of criticizing everything we see on the news, we should take the time to really look into it (use reliable sources!!!) and do our research on controversial topics. And remember, it’s okay to disagree, but never okay to disrespect.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie
