For those who have never read the books this is a quirky, awkward and fast paced movie devoid of character or world building. It has charm but is lost with silly plot and dialogue as well as spotty CGI. For those who have read the books this is a slap to the face! The biggest plot points are taken out and replaced with idiotic decisions by the script writers. Captain Short and Commander root have their entire back story, relationship, and major plot points completely changed and destroyed. Holly (in the books) is the very first female Officer and Commander Root is a major father figure to her. The movie totally does away with that! It's 2020 normally people are all over the female empowerment but here they spit on the idea. Artemis is poorly portrayed, the Butlers are ruined and made as sniveling worthless side characters. The plot is a mix of multiple books and turns half the mythos around on its head! There was a serious lack of character development and world building and it just ruined one of my favorite childhood book series.
