I thought it was fun and beautifully shot! I do not have a frame of reference with the book.... I'm sorry I have not read it yet. But I took a star due to hearing almost unanimously how much "it did not follow the source material". Though, creative changes to grab the audience's attention is rather common in the film adaptations of popular literature. So that shouldn't be too much of a surprise. The idea is getting people back to the box office after covid, you do realize this right? So for the people who don't like it I guess I "understand" why you're upset. But, I think it was an all-around good time. If you go to enjoy it for what it is and not have expectations of what it should be. I believe you'll enjoy it. The cast (mostly) shared a certain chemistry intention... There was quite a few laughs both cheap, and intelligent Easter eggs. It contained the deeper message from the book (that I now have to read). And it was shot extremely beautifully! You can tell everyone involved in this project worked hard! All the way down to the final edits! In my opinion the people that don't like it and have bad things to say are just nitpicking. When you adapt any popular story the purists are going to come out of the woodworks... It's just par for the course. But as a standalone (listen closely here comes the key word) "Based On" the book by Kotaro Isaka... I liked it, and think everyone should give it a chance. But that's just my opinion.
