Unfortunately Wilkerson begins this book with unnecessary comments which many will dispute and find offensive. Moving on one realizes this is an important work. Empathy is so healing. Wilkerson's accounts conjure Empathy and understanding. We ought to be reading books such as Frederick Douglass's autobiographies and Solomon Northrup's Twelve Years a Slave. We ought to be learning about what has been endured and honoring those who suffered so terribly. Frederick Douglass was Flawless, Brilliant, Kind, Reasonable, Courageous, Dignified. As I am into Wilkerson's CASTE, I appreciate the work, however, the beginning was offputting and unhelpful. The beginning and other parts of the book are Distortions and Fabrications. I will recommend this book to friends and associates. If only we could move on to healing, understanding, respect and commitments to studies of history. This is not a casual commitment but it is the decent path.We MUST HONOR those who endured. I am a steadfast Trump supporter, admirer. I am disappointed Wilkerson is not objective. She disserves President Trump and the country. He has no record of racism. The record reflects he enhanced the lives of minorities, of all of us. We only want those entering the country to do so legally. Could go on and on. In spite of Wilkerson's bias, I take to heart the antidotes she shares. I continue my studies, in grief, and horror for atrocities visited on good, dignified, brilliant, heroic people through the institution of slavery, reconstruction and other other bad acts.Feeling helpless all I can think of to do is to continue my studies, sharing what I learn, urge others to join in such study and honor those who were so unbelievably violated. All we can do is weep and love one another. Please watch YouTubes featuring Wilkerson.You will love her.The more time I spend reading Wilkerson and watching her YouTubes, the more I appreciate and respect her. I am so sorry for indignities she has and will continue to suffer. This comes from a humble admirer. Thank you, Isabel Wilkerson.
