Let's cut straight to the chase...this movie belongs on Tubi! I've had this movie in my Netflix list for months, fearing that it will be a waste of my time. I was a fan of Tyler Perry's early stage plays and went to see all of them. I saw a few of his early films and television shows, but they began to be the same ol', same ol', so I stopped watching, for the most part.
On top of the audio and make-up being terrible (I could see a black ring around Kelly Rowland's mouth), the acting, from actors who have been in several movies, is horrible! The dialogue sounds as if they are reading words from a cue card, instead of letting it roll off their tongue with natural emotion. None of the characters even seem to believe the things that they're saying.
Character development would have been a plus, but it would not have been enough to save this movie. I think Perry is used to this. He isn't making movies to win awards or to make money, he's doing them because he likes to tell stories...he just hasn't pinned down exactly how to do that in a way that pleases the 90% of viewers who never saw his stage plays. Those are ride-or-die fans who won't call a flop, a flop, no matter how many one-star reviews there are.
