A Modern Day Masterpiece.
I first watched this movie when it came out in theaters in 2010. I was a young girl, and had never read the Ramona Quimby series. The moment I walked out of that theater I felt two things: seen and understood. Never in my life had I seen the imagination, mind, and emotions of a 10 year old girl so beautifully and accurately illustrated in a film. I would later find out that the genius of this inside look into a little girl's mind came from the writings of the author of the books, Beverly Cleary.
After watching this movie I was captivated by the character of Ramona and her vivid imagination and zest for life. I immediately started reading the Ramona Quimby series and eventually branched out to Cleary's other books. Even after I grew out of the age of reading kids books, I would often go back and escape to the world of the Quimby household and join Ramona in whatever mischief she was up to that day.
The "Ramona and Beezus" movie explores the joys and tribulations of family life through the eyes of a young girl. It explores serious topics such as love, death, and divorce in an honest and gentle way. It is a movie for all ages; there is something for everyone to enjoy. This movie shaped me into the person I am today and without it I would have never entered the wonderful world of Ramona Quimby, Henry Huggins, and all of Cleary's other characters and stories. I am truly grateful to the creators of this movie and cannot recommend it enough.
