I found the movie quite disappointing, especially as a follow-up to Man of Steel. I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. The intro was particularly underwhelming, it started with random time jumps like โ3 years agoโ and โ3 hours ago,โ which felt meaningless since the number three had no relevance to the story. It felt like a gimmick rather than something that added depth.
Krypto the dog was introduced within the first few minutes without any suspense or buildup, which made it feel rushed and unearned. Then Superman's team of robots fixes him up so he can jump back into action, and that was essentially the intro. Honestly, one of the worst introductions to a superhero film I've seen.
Visually, I appreciated the attempt to make it more colorful than Snyderโs version, that tonal shift suits Superman better. However, even that fell short. His costume felt forced and oddly unfitting; it lacked the natural presence Supermanโs suit should have.
Story-wise, it was decent. Nicholas Houltโs portrayal of Lex Luthor came off as far more menacing than Jesse Eisenbergโs in Batman v Superman, and it did remind me a bit of Kevin Spacey's take in Superman Returns, which I thought was quite good.
Overall though, the film just didnโt land for me. The storytelling and buildup to the climax lacked impact. In that regard, Man of Steel still stands stronger. Man of Steel told its story with more weight and cohesion. This one lacked that same narrative strength
It was a nice attempt, but it just didnโt hit the mark.
