At the time that the Dziekanski affair was "breaking" or "current", I was at first, skeptical. Then, as more "info" came out, the media filled in the gaps and the narrative became anti RCMP, I became more critical of the policing. And then, as the story died down, I left with the belief that the entire event was just another story of police covering up another "bad PR" situation, and, for many years, I forgot about it.
When a friend loaned me "Blamed Y Broken", I initially wondered if I would actually read it. Eventually (on recommendation/urging by the friend, I started - and quickly realized that I was reading a much more balanced rendition of the story.
Now, I review my original beliefs and find that I am horrified by the behavior of a number of public figures - Mr Oppal and Mr Braidwood in particular, plus the "leaders" of the RCMP who contributed to this travesty of justice.
Mr Petrovich's efforts to shed light on this dark period of the history of (in)justice is to be commended. To him, my gratitude. To members of the public, my strong, positive recommendation. It's definitely worth reading.
