I felt like the audience was given the opportunity to peep inside one old man’s brain for two hours… there’s not much more I can say about it except that I still love Aubrey Plaza and Adam Driver is competing with Leo Dicaprio for ugliest crying face.

This movie explores the world of true crime in a much more thoughtful way than most mainstream media. The visuals, score, acting and tone are all top notch. I was floored by the end of it. Yes, it’s a punishing viewing experience, but at least it feels like the film is challenging the viewer with a clear purpose in mind. (As opposed to directors who use graphic themes and imagery to simply shock the audience.) One of the best films I’ve seen in a while.

Saw this on the big screen at La Cinematheque Quebecoise. I fell in love with all three of the main characters and the story broke my heart. It shows a LGBTQ side of Istanbul that is rarely shown on screen. Great writing. Fantastic acting. Achingly beautiful.

Great performances and very atmospheric. Some really interesting camerawork/shots, too! It did feel a bit long though to get to the twist at the end which felt a little anticlimactic.

There’s so much empathy and subtlety in this story. I really dig the light hand the director brought to this homage to classic cinema and romance. Also, that dog is adorable!

Painfully beautiful and thoughtful film. Perfect for viewers looking for storytelling that takes its time, plays with structure and doesn’t spell its message out for you.

I’ve only watched the first three films in the series but I am floored so far. The stories themselves feel so real, so lived in, so deeply moving. I feel like more outlets/reviewers should be talking about this masterpiece. Yet again, Steve McQueen and crew bring the gorgeous cinematography, breathtaking long takes and unconventional shots.
