Enjoyed the book but got tired of the constant insert of songs and poetry, especially in the last pages. Still a really good book and worth a read/listen. Looking forward to the movie and I applaud the author for the sequel that really tied in well with the series.

Tried listening to it on audio,Whoopi Goldberg was a horrible choice as a reader, and the book was far too graphic in the first few chapters for me to even want to continue. I tried to skip ahead and it got worse. Why the author felt it necessary to drone on about the horrors of slavery, especially for the women I’ll never understand.
