The 19-year old principal character says “my voice sounded so young even to my own ears,” and this sentence sums it up. It’s a book for older teens; superficial in the extreme, not to mention a parody of Cuban history. Overblown language, overwrought emotions (“my pulse quickened as our hands touched”) etc. Skip it.
