Okay, yes, I'm sorry to the people who like this movie. I rated this 3 stars. I liked the ideas for each of the characters, but there were plot-holes and the dialogue was absolutely horrible.
What I liked about this movie:
The CGI is pretty good! It's not top quality, but the aliens look like they are there. I also liked the different kinds of stereotypes in the group, though the actress for Zhenzhen could have added some more to acting (but she's a child actor so it's not a big deal). The kids are all very talented! The acting was very good.
Things I didn't like about this movie:
First, Zhenzhen and Alex were supposed to get some kind of bond throughout their journey, but I saw no gradual change. In camp she didn't talk to him, then after the apocalypse, boom, she loves him. They're 13! Why would she be looking for love all her life? If they bonded more gradually and realistically, it would have been a better written relationship.
Second, I would have liked to see more into the lives of each kid instead of just hearing summaries of each backstory. I think that's just personal preference, though.
Lastly, the dialogue was really bad. Sometimes the kids would be talking about things totally unrelated to their conversation topic. Not just the jokes. The romance lines were especially bad. The scene where Zhenzhen burns her camp brochure was especially hard for me to watch. Like what? Who cares about the picture anymore, anyway?
Well, that's it. It's a decent movie, just not a really memorable one, in my opinion.
