James Roday deserved a better movie than this. Jensen Ackles too, but I couldn't watch past the 20 minute mark to even see him in the movie. I tried hanging on to see if something funny was going to happen but to no avail. A nice cast, but the plot, script and the pace was off. Some movies with this type of humor and style work, because we get to know the characters and at the very least get to laugh at some of the dialogue. Neither of which felt developed.
Just like the acting of the side characters, the jokes were forced. It really feels like they just strung a bunch of random ideas together until something that resembled a movie came about. The few times that felt humorous were based on the recognition of Dax Shepard and James Roday-only because they reminded me of their work outside of this project.
Also, the soundtrack and camera work was surprising for the movie they were trying to make. It felt like a hallmark movie?
Someone said it reminded them of the movie grown ups, for which the standards are low. If anything this is the made for tv version for the hallmark channel.
