Watched this movie a few days ago and I let myself sit with it before writing this review.
I’m exactly half way through reading the book so luckily I had a lot of plot and terminology fresh in my brain going into the movie.
But after watching it and thinking about it. I’m incredibly disappointed with the movie. I’ve also been told by husband that it’s completely different from the book.
I can even understand why some people left the screening during the movie. It was packed with so much that it became shallow and convoluted.
I know there’s a lot to cover and I’m aware there’s aspects and even characters that get left out. But, it was still overly stuffed and allowed nothing to breathe. It was just a series of plot points one after the after. They don’t even touch on how important water is and how friggin dry and hot Arakkis actually is, which the book does so well.
I’ve also read some reviews saying it’s too slow. I feel it was the complete opposite! This movie could’ve been split into two 2-hour movies.
It’s sad because I really like the director and some of his previous movies. And Part 1, while not perfect and had some problems, it set up the world, it was visually beautiful and got me excited for part 2. Also, my husband hates this movie so much. He is a big Dune fan but was concerned about seeing it because he wasn’t so keen on the first one (I feel bad for asking him to come see it with me!) I don’t hate it but I am disappointed, mostly sad of the wasted potential.
