I loved this series but for all the wrong reasons, I think!!!
Implausible plot, cartoon characters; stereotypes off the scale; comical special effects; over acting... putting Laurel and Hardy to shame; wobbly sets, reminiscent of the Australian series Cell Block H. But...once you stop attempting to take it seriously, it is brilliant!!! very very funny.
The girls are beautiful, the men are handsome and the villains stand out like sore thumbs before they open their mouths or do their dastardly deeds. A proper summer pantomime.
I watched the dubbed in English version which added buckets full of amusement. If you closed your eyes you could find yourself listening to a 1980’s Radio 4 Afternoon Theatre (which, incidentally, I loved) but.,, we’ve come to expect more convincing stuff from Netflix.
It started off great, with a street load of people attempting to escape from some nasty place in Spain (I think) by attempting to board the convincing Titanic lookalike, bound for Rio. We observe the 1600 passengers board this monster of the sea but what we don’t see is how all the poor hapless passengers suddenly vanish into some Black Hole, never to be seen again. The only glimpse you get is of the “surviving” passengers is when you espy a small group of first class posh folk in suits. stiff shirts and ball gowns enjoying a very nice champagne cabaret. Now let’s head below decks where we are presented with a view of the shabby steerage lot having a much better time of it. A drinking, dancing, singing bunch of undesirables who I’d have the time of my life with.
Two well to do, gorgeous sisters, on their way to board the “Titanic” in their chauffeur driven limousine accidental run over another gorgeous girl who, after miraculously surviving the accident, persuade the sisters to smuggle her on board because her boyfriend has said he is going to kill her. In the trunk she climbs, where she is unceremoniously hauled by the cabin boys, through tight security, where they are confronted by Columbo. The detective is my favourite character by a mile. He is short, wears a convincing detectives trilby and leather coat, supports an impressive moustache and announces himself as “The Detective” before he opens his mouth.
The story is one of murder, love, passion, intrigue and load of unintentional laughs. Loved it! PS, only seen series one.
