PARENTS BEWARE:
While we're browsing for something to watch, our girls have been pointing out this "cartoon show", A Tale Dark & Grimm, that constantly pops up on their Netflix kids profile . Although I did not intend for them to watch it (because of the title alone) With concern, I decided to view a few episodes myself since its being marketed to children.
I was completely disgusted by it. In the very first episode the parents chop off their kids (Hansel and Gretel) heads and the witch with the candy house cuts up her own baby and eats it in pies prompting her appetite for children. She has a closet full of shoes from the children she has eaten, one of which still has a bone and some flesh from a child. That shoe is thrown around by Hansel and the witch.
The witch later gets impaled. They show her impaled body and later her skeleton.
Throughout the show there's 2 "good crows" and "1 naughty crow" narrating the story. While the first two warn children of how bad and gruesome the events they are watching are, the third one challenges children to keep watching if they are brave enough. It's clearly a way to draw them in and keep them engaged.
The sun and moon have serrated teeth and at one point try to hurt/eat the children.
Gretel cuts off one of her fingers "as a sacrifice". The show features the devil and mentions being friends with him. The devil does agreements with multiple characters for their soul and later comes to collect them.
Hansel ends up in Hell being greeted by a demon who introduces himself by name. While in Hell, Hansel says that being there is not bad at all. The souls there are peeing on each other, some are in cages and others being tortured with whips by demons.
While in hell, the devil feeds on human parts soup and has an elderly fallen angel to take care of him as a grandmother.
There's a wizard who lures girls to steal their souls while mistreating his mother who he keeps locked on chains.
Their Dad, the king, becomes possessed by a dragon who makes him eat some villagers alive and threaten his own family.. The son, Hansel, cuts his Dad's head off in order to release the dragon.
Hansel and Gretel constantly question if parents even love their children, which in my opinion, is emotionally dangerous for our kids
I am baffled and CANNOT believe that children are being exposed to such things (beheading, hangings, torture, parents killing and eating their own children, cannibalism, cutting off body parts, etc.) This is definitely a way to desensitize our children. It is sad that childrens innocence is so disrespected. This series is targeted to 7 year olds, but I don't think it's appropriate for children of any age. Please keep an eye on what your kids are watching. They no longer have to leave the house or "hang with the wrong crowd" to see and learn the worse of things.
