It starts out very straight forward- within the first 10 minutes I felt like they gave up a lot of narrative clues outright (the bag, the iron, esc). I cannot tell you how glad I am I didn’t turn it off.
The characters are so lovable and funny while dealing with genuine hardships- they’re all complex and unexpected I can’t pick a favorite. The depth of friendship between Charles and Edwin, the way it shifts not only with the introduction of Crystal, but also pulling them outside of the comfort of London is absolutely brilliant. I will say, the characters feel like their in their old teens-early twenties over mid teens, but it definitely isn’t something that effected my rating.
There’s a campy comfort to Dead Boys- the whimsy softens a lot of the nitty gritty of adult fantasy shows that personally puts me off the genre. It is everything I needed in a show and then some.
The overarching theme of love and how it’s handled in the end- from platonic to romantic and everything in between is phenomenal.
A very special shout out to Esther Finch and Kingham and Litty for the delivery of the funniest lines in this show- and of course Edwin for a level of sass I could only wish to have.
If you have the chance, watch this show. It’s worth it.
