I really wanted this to be a 5-star movie, but some aspects fell short. I was hoping for a more grounded portrayal that captured the harsh realities of life in Kowloon Walled City - real gang wars, lawlessness, and the gritty power struggles that defined the area. Instead, the storyline veered from realism into something closer to fantasy.
The cinematography was stunning, and the level of detail in the recreation of the Walled City was incredible. They perfectly captured its chaotic and claustrophobic atmosphere. The actors delivered outstanding performances, but the decision to give the villain spirit powers felt out of place and completely threw me off.
While I enjoyed the movie overall, I found myself increasingly frustrated halfway through, wishing it had stayed true to a more realistic tone. However, the cinematography and meticulous attention to detail in recreating the Walled City make it worth watching at least once.
