I waited 2 years to play the game from beginning to end due to my own schoolwork at the time, the spoilers that were coming out and the “politics” of the game.
That being said, the game is amazing! Visually it’s beautiful, you can fully immerse yourself into the environments you’re taken to. Sound wise it’s music and effects help in that immersive experience.
The story is one that’ll be revered as one of the best in all video game history. I thought it would’ve been a cash grab seeing as how impossible of a feat I thought it would’ve been to top the first game story + play wise. Both games play like a big budget movie/game hybrid. Love them.
¡SPOILERS AHEAD!
For Part 2 though, nothing feels forced. All the characters and their circumstances are believable given the devastating world they find themselves in. All the emotions from them is raw and their actions and the consequences that follow are justified. I can see how some closed minded people may have been offended and review bombed the game. However if you are an adult that accepts that there are different people with varying perspectives from yours then you’ll love it.
My only critic, which really plays into how great the storytelling and play experience is to where you care about the characters and their stories, is how they left Tommy and Ellie’s endings. Tommy being impaired at the end and having an uncertain relationship end with Maria, and Ellie coming back home to find Dina and JJ gone. Love these characters to a point where you see everything they have gone through and truly want better endings for them.
Everything said, I can’t wait to play through again with the unlocked features and appreciate it all over again. It’s entirely unique in gameplay, visuals story, and sets the bar for what future games should aim for. Excited for the HBO live adaptation coming and hope if it goes well that Part 2 will have its story adapted as well.
