I guess itโs good to be reminded from time to time that Black people can make anti-Black work. Spike, whose early work is some of the greatest and has had a few since that were great too, has really made a mess of a movie here. Flops happen, but I canโt understand why heโd think we need another racist film, only now made by a Black auteur. One or two brilliant formal choices, but for the most part- a thin, moralistic, Hallmark fantasy of a family values movie. But make it Blackface.
