The main idea is that the Lord gives us freedom to chose the way of angels or beasts. The individualism of our culture distains constraints - in fact sees them as stifling and soul destroying. Esti’s desire to let her child choose its own way echoes the agenda of many parents of the 1970s whose children are now modeling the lives of both of these unattached women who yield to every whim and call it freedom. However the main character’s life looks pretty bleak. The way of the beasts which we are free to choose is the way of disintegration - a very interesting word.
