Really good book. But a slow burn for mystery and crime thriller readers. Actually, a major slow burn. But it makes you think about they way humans behave in different situations (as all good stories do) so I give the book leeway because of that. Agree with some reviews that the middle portion of the book about the bataan death march (about a little over one-third of the book) is completely unrelated to the story. But I’m still fine with that because it gave me some stuff to think about when I was evaluating his state of mind and his motives.
Overall, a worthy read. But definitely not for someone expecting a crime thriller or mystery/suspense novel. Strongly recommended for people who love good human stories with well developed characters and locations.
