This is the worst book I’ve ever read. For my English class, we were assigned to read this book and from the day I started to the day I finished… I felt a deep hate for this book. Now mind you this is coming from a girl. I understand the message they’re trying to get behind… “Feminism” and “Girl-Power”. It’s great… it really is. I mean I love girl power and feminism one of my favorite books is “Dress Coded” by Carrie Firestone and that book is all about feminism. I also love the movie “Moxie” on Netflix. I was really hoping this book would make me feel the same way but it didn’t. The protagonists, Jasmine and Chelsea were just so self-centered. Jasmine is fat and black and her father is dying and Chelsea is just white and annoying. If these characters had a better attitude… I think I would’ve enjoyed this book much more. They’re all fighting for the cause of feminism and such, yet being such hypocrites. I one of the first chapters, Chelsea is complaining how products are labeled using feminine stereotype or calling a certain style “skinny jeans”. Yet, she still continues to purchase these products and does nothing to change them but complain to herself and her friends. Throughout the story, they act like everything is about them and rules don’t pertain to them. They vandalized their school, disobeyed school authorities, and started other troubles. If they were more respectful and ACTUALLY cared about the cause they were fighting for, this book might’ve been much more enjoyable. This book was a struggle to read and stay interested. If you’re looking for a better book to read with a similar message, I definitely suggest “Dress Coded” by Carrie Firestone.
