Amazing film. With 10 lines of dialogue in over 3 hours, it says it all about the female condition at the cusp of women’s lib. It’s a feminist movie. I was born and raised in Paris , France and it reminded me of my own mother and her life. The next generation of women ( mine, born in the 60s) really escape the subjugated hellish lives so many women endured back then. It feels good to be female and alive in 2023!
If you can make it through the interminable bath scene, you can watch it. On a personal note, I have always disliked cooking, and watching this movie made me understand why! I watched my mother fetch groceries in her filet ( net bag) and cook the exact same dishes… she was a good cook, but to me it seemed like and endless chore.
