Saw it twice in one week. The only thing that bothered me at times was the reaction of the mostly white audience--so eager to laugh when the Black professor tells a white student that he's gotten over the N word in literature and maybe she should too. So eager to laugh in response to the ridiculous white entertainment gatekeepers, as if by laughing we are absolved from our part in that bargain--consuming the schlock and feeling good about ourselves for supporting black art. I think most of the white folks in the audience thought the movie was talking about those other white people, not us, not the ones watching the movie.
