I LOVE this book! Thank you Jonathan!
So many hilarious parts. (Page 103 Par 3 for example had me rolling on the floor with laughter...buy the book if you want to find out how funny Sean Connery was on set, also the humility of Christopher Lambert...there is so much I can't even begin to start.)
It was such an honour to walk behind the scenes. The writing is so creative and descriptive, that when I am reading A Kind of Magic, I feel like I am at Eilean Donan Castle shooting on location in 1986.
I am genuinely not much of a reader, but I have a hard time putting it down. Like all TV series, I realize how much time went into this, so I pace myself to try and savour it out of respect for the craft, but it's so brilliantly done, I can't get enough. I am almost finished and plan to start over. The research by Jonathan Melville is phenomenal - so much attention to detail - plotting, with great accuracy, each person's background, how they came to be a part of the Highlander universe in the first place and what they brought to the table - not just actors, but every facet behind the scenes - storyboarding, script writing, producing, directing, filming under difficult circumstances in a time before CGI and blue screens, etc. (Also some funny tales of the Scottish crowd extras, but read to find out more); discussions about the entire franchise, the EPIC soundtrack (best score ever in my opinion), never-before-seen behind-the-scenes photographs...
You won't be disappointed!
Let me shut up now. This post is already too long. :-)
