Sadly, for me, it was a very disappointing read. I love mid-century period stories in the "Phryne Fisher genre. The synopses had the makings of exactly the sort of thing I'd devour with relish. Much to my disappointment, it was not to be. The plot development is beyond the bounds of incredulity. Supposedly set in the mid 1930s, the protagonists at one point in the story, hear "Approaching Police Sirens" Sadly, UK Police forces had to wait until 1990, some fifty five to sixty years into the future for Police sirens to become a "Real Thing." In another moment of time traveling, the key character, Kitty, gives "The Ladies Maid, Betty" a £1 note and some shillings for her to get the bus fare home. This equates to a value of about £500.00 in mid 1930s spending power. Poorly researched and when we learn of the identity of the actual murderer, I was set in mind to imagine that Mother Teresa of Calcutta was more likely to have carried out the ghastly deed. Sadly, it hasn't piqued my interest to look at any of the others in the series.
